FAITH continued… Chapter 1

This story is continued from HERE.;

Three weeks earlier my husband’s sister Cloe had come for a visit to see our declining mother. This was the first time that she had visited her mother for at least a year.

She came crashing through the door after I watched her pull into the driveway in a rented red convertable. She liked to appear casual with her bleach blonde hair in a ponytail, wearing her finest nautical sportsware.

“Check out this new memory card that I have for my camera! It holds 500 pictures! This is perfect for me to catalog the inventory of my posessions…”Jesus Crist! I’ve got a stain on my Designer boat shoes!”

I quickly offered to spot clean her stain. She instantly declined explaining that she would rather spend the next day unwinding at Mothers house and that she would take care of the stain there.

The next afternoon, upon the family arriving from jobs, college, their lives. The entire family gathered at the end of the day. Cloe showed up, now wearing her cleaned shoes and announced that she had changed her flight and was cutting her trip short. She had not even been here for twenty four hours. She hadn’t even visited Mother who was in recovery in rehab.

“I don’t want to go see mom. It’s too depressing.” After spending time in her house, looking at all of the things, I just don’t want to deal with this.”

We were shocked and expressed to her, our sadness and bewilderment.

“Please, let’s all join in for a family picture to put on your new memory card.” I asked.

“Oh, it’s full.” Cloe quickly snapped with a twist in her smile and far away eyes.

I, in my mind, had turned my attention onto the image of our mothers Will that had been sitting on her desk after she had pulled it out prior to going to the hospital a couple weeks before. She had once again, reviewed it with Bruce. When I looked at my husband, I could tell that his mind was there as well.

“I insist that you two to take my Porsche and drive up the coast of Main. You two need this time together. I will take the kids. They can come stay with me at the Estate. I promise that I will watch them like they were my own.”

I felt angry. I didn’t want to be away from them. I felt the need to stay with them and protect them. We had all been so busy in our own lives and it was finally time to spend time together.
My husband had agreed with Cloe, after telling me that it was best again and again.  Despite my internal knowing that something was terribly wrong.

We had arrived at Cloe and her husband’s Estate in Old Lyme, Connecticut with the children, just in time for the huge catered birthday celebration with a fireworks show that would impress a King.

Cloe never respected my boundaries as to the rules of what was allowed and not allowed with my children. I felt compleatly underminded. She has no children of her own.

Mother had been in our care for the past twenty years following a major Stroke. Bruce had built her a beautiful home in the neighborhood that we live so she could have the freedom of independent living and we were close enough that we could easily be able take care of her. Our daily ritual was Doctors appointments, her shopping, preparing her meals etc.
But now, she is in rehabilitation center following post operative exploratory sergery due to a gathering of fluids in her abdomen. Her liver, kidney and heart problems had been ongoing since her stroke. Always arguing with her doctors because she just wanted to be well again she always insisted that her Doctors were not educated. She had a Pacemaker but a strong will to live.

Chapter Two:

The condition of my son was worse than I had imagined. I was so affraid to even touch him. There were so many machines, tubes, he was swollen and I didn’t recognize him. “I want to hold you, touch you, smell you.” But all I could smell was the adhesive tape and Betadyne. He no longer smelled like my boy who liked to play outside.
